Amid the escalating violence between the tribals and the majority Meitei community in Manipur, the Indian Army has warned against the circulation of fake videos. The Army has urged people to rely only on official and verified sources. The situation in Moreh and Kangpokpi areas is now under control, the Army said in a tweet. The precautionary build-up of additional troops in Manipur continued.
In addition, the Indian Air Force will be undertaking flying operations to induct additional Indian Army columns commencing tonight from Guwahati and Tezpur. On Thursday, the state government issued a 'shoot at sight' order in "extreme cases" as the violence spread to Imphal. Over 6,000 soldiers have already been deployed to stop rioters from attacking people.
The Congress on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of creating fissures among communities with its "politics of hate" and alleged that "Manipur is burning" because of it. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appealed to the people of Manipur to exercise restraint and let peace prevail. "BJP's politics of hate, division and its greed for power is responsible for this mess," he said. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to focus on restoring peace and normalcy in the northeastern state.
